What COVID-19 tests do I need to do to go to Portugal?

No matter their origin or purpose, all passengers are allowed to enter the national territory.

Requirements to enter the Territory of Portugal:

  • Being Present is mandatory
  • Valid vaccination, COVID Certificate
  • A valid test certificate
  • A vaccination certificate
  • A negative PCR test 72 hours before you board

Children younger than 12 years old do not have to show a certificate or pass a test.

It is not necessary to fill out the Passenger Locator Form anymore.

AZORES

A passenger flying to the Azores from Portugal on domestic flights (departing either Madeira or Portugal mainland) is not subject to any restrictions.  Before boarding, passengers on direct international flights must present:

  • Valid vaccination, test, or recovery EU Digital COVID Certificate
  • or a negative RTPCR Test – 72 hours before boarding
  • or a negative Laboratorial Rapid Antigen Test (48h before boarding) (according to the European Commission list).
  • Or a Recovery Certificate (valid 180 days).
  • or a WHO (World Health Organization) Vaccination Certificate.

Children 12 years old and younger can travel freely without needing a certificate or test.

MADEIRA

No restrictions apply to travelers entering Madeira’s ports, airports, and marinas. The passenger is responsible for any tests performed before returning to their country of origin at the passenger’s expense.

Land entry is permitted into any country without restrictions. Travel by land is allowed. Each traveler should contact their respective authorities to find the limits and measures in place in each transit country.

General Rules

Portugal Covid-19 Requirements:

Madeira Rules

For persons under six years old, a mask must be worn. Services and health facilities, including pharmacies.  Public transport, taxis, and other passenger transport.  Access to covered areas and public transport platforms, including airports and maritime terminals. COVID-19 cases confirmed the individual must be out of isolation until ten days after the onset of symptoms.

Persons should wear a mask over six years of age to access enclosed areas and circulation.

Clean & Safe

Tourism has the “Clean & Safe” seal. This seal makes tourists feel more secure and confident in their accommodation and other tourist services and attractions.

Covid-19 Tests

  1. Upon arrival at the airport, security checks may be performed.
  2. A test certificate center must provide the following information:
  • Test taken
  • Name and Last Name
  • Date of birth
  • y identifies the laboratory, including certification
  • The date and time that the sample was taken and the result of the negative test

Passengers with non-compliant tests must take a new test upon arrival to enter Portugal. They must also wait at a designated location inside the airport until they are notified.

You can take the Covid-19 test as a foreign visitor immediately after your arrival or before you leave.

After taking the Vaccination :

  • For vaccines that use a one-dose schedule, a single-dose vaccination is recommended.
  • A second dose of the vaccine against COVID-19, with a two-dose schedule; even if two vaccines were administered;
  • One dose of vaccine against COVID-19 with a 2-dose schedule for those who have fully recovered

Whenever 14 days pass from your vaccination, only then it is valid

COVID Certificate

The EU COVID Certificate proves that an individual is:

  • Vaccinateded against COVID-19
  • A negative result from a test
  • Recovered from COVID-19.

Children younger than 12 are not required to present the EU Digital COVID Certificate.

It is valid for 270 calendar days from the date of the last dose in a complete vaccine schedule. The vaccination certificate that indicates the entire vaccination schedule for children under 18 years of age will be valid for 270 days from the date of issue.

Certificates issued under different types of reciprocal conditions

The Certificates should include:

  • Full Name
  • Date of birth
  • Prophylaxis or Vaccine for COVID-19
  • Type of vaccine that will combat COVID-19
  • The number of doses in a given series as well as their total number
  • Date of vaccination, which indicates the date of administration of the last dose
  • Member state or third country in which the vaccine was administered
  • The entity issues the certificate

You must include a recovery certificate:

  • Full Name
  • Date of birth
  • COVID-19 – Disease or agent from whom the holder has recovered
  • Date of the positive diagnostic test result
  • The diagnostic test was carried out in a member state or a third country
  • The entity issues the certificate
  • Valid certificate
